Volunteering at Mental Health America of Aiken County

Make a Positive Difference in our Community

Volunteers are the backbone of any nonprofit agency. It is with your assistance that our programs are able to make a huge difference in the community. When we are able to use volunteers to support our programs, it increases our ability to use our funding to impact a greater number of people in need. Volunteering not only makes a positive impact on the community, it makes a personal difference as you experience the reward of giving back.

Volunteering Offers Something for Everyone

MHAAC's Volunteer Program welcomes people of all ages. MHAAC Volunteers are retirees, professionals, homemakers, students, part-time residents, women and men of all backgrounds who live in surrounding communities. They are very special people who have one common purpose -- they want to help others and make a difference. Volunteers have played a vital role at MHAAC since 1967. They are an important part of our agency's "family", donating selflessly of their time and talents; working closely with staff to help us carry out our mission.

Ways You Can Make a Difference

You don't need special skills or training to become a volunteer. Every volunteer brings his or her individual interests, talents and experience to the volunteer program, and each plays a unique and important role. Each prospective volunteer will meet with one of our staff members, and if interested in assisting with any of our programs you will receive orientation and program specific "on-the-job" training. Depending upon which program you are interested in assisting, we ask that volunteers serve one day per week (even if for only one hour, it depends on the service you'd like to provide) or at least twice a month...and many of the dedicated volunteers are able to work more frequently. We will try to match you to the program, or event that is best suited to your areas of expertise and availability.

Benefits of Volunteering

In addition to helping others and meeting new friends, you may also enjoy the chance to learn new skills and develop new interests. As an MHAAC volunteer, you will have the opportunity to participate in our annual social activities and receive special service awards. We are able to provide you with an accounting of hours for which you have volunteered, should you require documentation for your records (voluntary public service reflects highly on a resume or college entrance applications). Please fill out the following form to indicate which program or service you or your organization is interested in offering assistance.
